May 16, 2010, Olivia J preparing for wild Kimberley coast expedition
MV Olivia J returned from Mary River to Darwin today to go onto dry dock to do new survey in preparation for departure to the wild Kimberley coast.
Still more work to do to get the last bits of sponsorship for my photography signed and sealed.
Investigations are happening to see whether it is possible to base the vessel at Broome after this expedition. That would be great for photography opportunities on this side of the Kimberley.
We have a film maker from Melbourne coming over soon for a pre-shoot meeting in Broome because he will be joining us for a couple of weeks in August to direct a documentary about the photography project and interaction with scientists at Turtle Reef in Talbot Bay. Very exciting.

May 4, 2010, Better Certainty
Tide runs off Turtle Reef. When the 10 meter tide is up the Olivia J can steam across the top of this like it is open ocean. Then six hours later you could walk for several kilometers on dry reef.
Meetings today with Steve Blake from West Australian Marine Science Institute, and a major player in the Pearling industry here in Broome who also has a background in marine science - secured sufficient resources support to say the Crab Eyes Kimberley coast expedition is now a certainty.
Depart from Darwin for Kimberley waters in early July.
We will also produce a short documentary about an aspect of the expedition dealing with some fascinating issues around 'inshore' reef structures and associated corals.Stay posted.Peter Strain.

...go to the Giant Tides website and look at the Olivia J gallery.
the expedition will work in with some marine science projects in the Talbot Bay area in September 2010.
There may be some opportunity for some other parties to join the vessel around the Talbot Bay and Koolan Island area in September or October when we are within reach by seaplane from Broome or Derby.
